WHAT IS COACHING
Coaching is a process that allows you to reflect and gain awareness of who you are, what is important to you, your strengths, challenges, options you have, and actions you need to take to make the desired changes in your life. Coaches believe that people have the answers to their own problems but might need help to find them.
Unlike training and instruction where the emphasis is on the trainer imparting their knowledge to you, coaching focuses on helping you to take responsibility for identifying your own goals, assessing your own strengths and weaknesses, and identifying your own solutions for moving forward. This is achieved by the coach providing a safe, creative, and non-judgemental space, asking thought-provoking questions and listening, to help you explore, reflect and make decisions.
People engage in coaching for a variety of reasons. It can help you make changes in your personal life, business or career, enhance your relationships with others, build self-confidence, etc.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A COACHING SESSION

Typically, a coaching session is structured as follows:

Goal
The session begins with the client saying what they want to work on in this particular session. Coach and client then discuss further to clarify and define the client's goal.
If you are confused about your goal, the coach, through questions and active listening, will help you clarify it.
There are two types of goals – long-term goals and session goals. The session goal is something specific that the client wants to accomplish from the current meeting with the coach. It can be a small step towards a long-term goal, or something unrelated but important to clarify or resolve in the present moment.
The coach then guides the client to explore what is important or meaningful to the client about the goal, what need is driving it, and what values lie behind it. True goals are in harmony with the values of a person. Sometimes the client may not see the full picture or might set a goal that excites them at the time but is simply a result of a temporary emotional state, and not really meaningful. The role of the coach is to help the client realise what it is they really want to achieve.

Reality
In this phase of the session, the coach and the client discuss: What work has the client done so far towards the goal, if any? What have they achieved? What problems they encountered? What moves them to the desired result? What resources do they have – time, people, money, knowledge, skills, etc. This stage takes the most time in the session and here the coach is most actively involved in providing feedback on what they hear and see. With active listening, open-ended questions, and intuition, the coach helps the client see a non-biased picture of the situation and hear the internal fears and limiting beliefs that cloud their judgment. This is the stage of evoking awareness and insight.

Options
Key question here is: What could you do to achieve your goal?, which implies not only possibility, ability, and realism, but expands the horizon of thinking for generating options beyond the most logical and accessible.

Next Steps
In the final phase, the client settles on one option, decides on an action plan - what and when, and commits to the implementation. The idea is for the client to consider the upcoming actions realistically, think through all the details, and make a commitment to himself and to his coach. At the end, coach and client agree on how the coach will follow up on the action plan. This external accountability and commitment to concrete actions sets coaching apart from all other approaches to working with people. Commitment, responsibility, and consistency are the main reasons why people when working with a coach make much more progress than when working alone.
The coach, with the consent of the client, can give "homework" for the time until the next session. The purpose of this is to increase the effectiveness of the coaching.
The above is broadly the typical structure of a coaching session. However, it is quite possible that your session does not proceed according to the described steps. This depends on your specific coaching needs.

Occupational: Practicing occupation which reflects our core values and makes use of our gifts, skills, and talents.
Wellness is virtually in every aspect of our lives, from our morning routines and how we manage our work schedule, to our relationships with friends and family, and what we put on our plate.
